Secondary metallurgy
Ladle furnaces
The first step of the secondary metallurgical treatment takes place in two ladle furnaces. During this phase a rough setting of the chemical analysis occurs as well as a further heating-up of the liquid steel. Thanks to slagging potentially damaging elements such as sulphur and other non-metallic inclusions are removed from the cast.
Vacuum degassing facilities
In order to guarantee the highest possible level of steel purity to fulfil the most stringent customer’s requirements, LSW employs two degassing facilities. In the deep vacuum created in the chamber gases such as hydrogen and nitrogen are sucked out and non-metallic inclusions are removed from the steel.
